Class IV Laser Therapy/Photobiomodulation

Laser therapy, also known as photobiomodulation (PBMT), is a non-invasive treatment that uses coherent and collimated light, either red or near infrared to stimulate cellular changes within body tissues. This process enhances cellular function and supports healing in both acute and chronic conditions. Laser boosts
cellular function which enables accelerates healing along with many other benefits for both acute and chronic conditions - These include the reduction of inflammation and oedema, increased collagen production and it enables a natural analgesia that improves comfort levels and mobility. Unlike lower class lasers the Class IV laser has the wavelength capacity to penetrate deeper tissues when needed, allowing light to be absorbed by deeper cells and not just at a superficial level. The Companion Animal Health laser I use has built in fan to prevent overheating and the option of contact heads that maximise penetration and off contact heads that can be used post operatively and for dogs who are sensitive to touch.
What Is Laser Therapy?
Laser therapy uses targeted light wavelengths tailored to your dog's condition, body area, weight, coat length, and skin colour. The light penetrates cells, where mitochondria absorb it, boosting ATP (energy) production and increasing nitric oxide for pain relief and improved blood flow. By reducing inflammatory mediators like
prostaglandins and bradykinin, laser therapy can naturally reduce pain.

How Does It Work?

Laser therapy can be used across a wide range of conditions both acute and
chronic.

-
Chronic conditions include, osteoarthritis, hip and elbow dysplasia,
osteochondrosis (OCD), spondylosis, intervertebral disc disease (IVDD),
cruciate ligament disease, degenerative myelopathy and many more.
-
Post operative recovery - Reducing inflammation, swelling, pain and scar
tissue formation leading to a more comfortable and accelerated healing
process.
-
Soft tissue injuries these include strains and sprains
-
Tendon conditions – These include tendonitis, tenosynovitis, tendinosis
-
Neuropathic pain and myofascial pain
-
General pain management
